Community Memories Program I was involved in the design and development of the first version of the Community Memories program and the led the redesign and development (from architecture through design and development). The software has now been used by over 800 museums in Canada and the output serves as the only online content presentation for many small museums in Canada. The software guides users through the creation of a digitization project with the output being the creation of stands-compliant digital exhibits. The easy-to-use software has an interface design that specifically addresses users who many not be familiar or comfortable with technology. Users structure content based on step-by-step instructional design, and use controlled vocabulary to properly tag their content with stands-based metadata. The resulting digital compositions are uploaded to the Virtual Museum of Canada via FTP (providing many museums with their only web-based content), remain present in-gallery on a kiosk, and can be burned to DVD and sold in gift shops. The design process included an extensive requirements definition process in which I worked with approximately 1200 museums from across Canada. The software is available from the Canadian Heritage Information Network. |
